Southern Railway Announces Deepavali Special Train Between Chennai Egmore and Barauni

Chennai, October 15, 2025:
To manage the festive rush of passengers during the upcoming Deepavali celebrations, Southern Railway has announced the operation of additional special trains connecting Chennai Egmore and Barauni.



Train Schedule and Details

The special service, Train No. 06079/06080 Chennai Egmore – Barauni – Chennai Egmore Express Special, will operate one trip in each direction.

Train No. 06079 Chennai Egmore – Barauni Express Special will depart from Chennai Egmore at 23.55 hrs on 16th October 2025 (Thursday) and reach Barauni at 19.30 hrs on 18th October 2025 (Saturday).

Train No. 06080 Barauni – Chennai Egmore Express Special will leave Barauni at 21.15 hrs on 19th October 2025 (Sunday) and reach Chennai Egmore at 18.00 hrs on 21st October 2025 (Tuesday).


Each direction will run as a single special service to cater to the festive travel demand.

Coach Composition

The train will consist of:

16 Sleeper Class coaches

2 General Second Class coaches

1 Second Class coach (Divyangjan Friendly)

1 Luggage-cum-Brake Van


This composition aims to accommodate a large number of long-distance passengers traveling between Tamil Nadu and northern states during the festival season.

Key Stations and Timings

The Chennai Egmore–Barauni Express Special will have stoppages at major stations including Sullurupetta, Gudur, Nellore, Ongole, Tenali, Vijayawada, Eluru, Rajahmundry, Vizianagaram, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Kharagpur, Asansol, Jhajha, and Kiul among others.

The return service from Barauni to Chennai will follow a similar route, halting at the same major stations.

Reservation and Booking

Advance reservation for the above special trains is already open through all Southern Railway booking counters and IRCTC online platforms. Passengers are advised to book early to avoid last-minute rush.

According to M. Senthamil Selvan, Chief Public Relations Officer, Southern Railway, these festival special services have been introduced to clear the extra rush of passengers and ensure a smooth travel experience during Deepavali.
